HYDERABAD, DEC. 30. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has dispelled doubts about the second round of talks by the Government with Maoists and Janashakti naxalites by confirming on Thursday that it would be held. Speaking to reporters here, Dr. Reddy made it clear that the talks would continue to convince the extremists to change their attitude and join the political mainstream. The naxalite problem had reached a certain stage with the Government initiating talks. The Chief Minister maintained that the Government would continue to make efforts for talks while maintaining law and order. The Government could not absolve its responsibility of governance merely because it was talking to the extremists. It could not be silent to their extortions, occupation of land, destruction of forest and landmine triggered by extremists in Visakhapatnam district, injuring four police constables. He denied that the Government had either hardened or softened its stand against the extremists after the first round.
