By Our Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM, DEC. 30. Arrangement for the Kottayam District Schools Youth Festival, scheduled to begin on January 3, is nearing completion, the organisers said.

Festivities planned in connection with the inaugural ceremony have been cancelled in view of the tsunami disaster, they said.

The festival would be formally inaugurated by K. Suresh Kurup, MP, at St. John the Baptist HSS at Nedumkunnam. K. Narayana Kurup, MLA, will preside and Bishop Joseph Perumthottam will speak.

In addition to the festival, Balakalotsavom, Samskritolsavom, Arabic Literary Festival and TTI-PPTTI festivals would also be held during the four-day festival.

More than 3,000 contestants from the 13 educational sub-districts would participate in 230 events, they said.

The district panchayat president, Ajitha Sabu, would inaugurate the valedictory function on January 6.
