KANCHEEPURAM, DEC. 30. The special investigation team, probing the Sankararaman murder case, today arrested Raghu, brother of the Junior Acharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Vijayendra Saraswati, under Section 302 read with Section 34 and Section 120 (B) of IPC in connection with the case. The Superintendent of Police, Kancheepuram, K. Premkumar, confirmed the arrest. Mr. Raghu, who was asked to appear before the team this evening, was later told by the police that he had been detained in connection with the murder case. He entered the investigation bungalow at around 5.15 p.m. along with his counsel, A. Shanmugam and Vaidyanathan. At around 7.45 p.m, Mr. Raghu's brother Prabhakar came to the bungalow and informed the sentry that he was asked to come there by the special investigation team. Mr. Shanmugam later told reporters that the arrest intimation was served on Mr. Raghu around 8.30 p.m. With the arrest of Mr. Raghu, the number of persons arrested from the Kanchi Sankara Mutt in connection with murder case has gone up to three. Earlier, the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Jayendra Saraswathi, was arrested at Mahabubnagar near Hyderabad on November 11 and the Mutt Manager, Sundaresa Iyer, was detained on December 24 night at Kancheepuram. All the three have been booked under the same Sections of the IPC. The police have so far taken 24 persons, including Mr. Raghu, into custody in connection with the murder of the Sri Varadarajaperumal temple manager, Sankararaman, here on September 3.
