JAIPUR, DEC. 30. The Rajasthan Home Minister, Gulab Chand Kataria, today said the State police would observe 2005 as the year of earning people's confidence and announced a New Year's action plan for the police machinery laying emphasis on improving the police-community relations. Mr. Kataria, in a circular addressed to all Inspectors General of Police and Superintendents of Police, affirmed that the police organisation of the State was "full of an immense potential" waiting to be tapped with commitment, courage, enthusiasm and dedication. "The most important task before us is to win confidence of people and assure them that police are working for their safety and security," he said. The appointment of a State-level Police-Community Collaboration Committee will be the first step towards gaining the trust of common men. Mr. Kataria said the district committees would also be set up, giving adequate representation to the "people with positive thinking" and sensitising the police machinery to the people's problems. Mr. Kataria said the action plan would highlight the significance of good behaviour of policemen with the public at large and expressed the hope that this aspect would be taken care of in all police stations within the first week of the New Year. He also said one police station in each district would be evolved as a model police station. Referring to the crimes which are also treated as social evils, such as gambling and prostitution, Mr. Kataria underlined the significance of a strong determination to curb them. For the disputes between individuals, police will try to bring about compromise to avoid registration of criminal cases. The Home Minister's office will monitor the implementation of the action plan and review its progress. Mr. Kataria said the number of police patrol parties would be increased to curb the crimes in cities.
