PM visit comes as a blessing to them

By Our Staff Reporter

NAGERCOIL, DEC. 30. The inmates of St. Mary's higher secondary school relief camp heaved a sigh of relief today and thanked the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, for visiting their camp.

Nobody could enter their camp as the entire area was scattered with garbage, plastic items, leftovers and the belongings of affected fishermen. The Colachel municipal authority was least bothered about cleaning the area for the last three days. Moreover foul smell emanating from decomposed bodies kept just opposite the Government medical college for identification caused problems to the people.

They had to use handkerchiefs or masks to close their nose while crossing the place. But it was amazing how the inmates of the relief camp managed to spend three full days and nights breathing this foul smell and other hardships.

"In fact we had sleepless nights for the last three days but the visit of the Prime Minister came as a relief to us as the municipal authority sanitised the entire area. We could stay in a hygienic atmosphere at least for another three days. We pray to God to send one more VIP to our relief camp after two days so that the municipal authority will clean the area," said one of the affected fishermen, Vincent of Maramadi near Colachel.
