`Kuvempu's contribution to Kannada invaluable'

UDUPI, DEC. 30. Kayyara Kinhanna Rai, litterateur, on Wednesday said that the poet-laureate Kuvempu had rendered invaluable contribution to Kannada literature.

He was speaking as chief guest at the valedictory of the national seminar on Kuvempu organised by the Sahitya Akademi and Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Samshodhana Kendra, here, to mark the conclusion of the poet-laureate's birth centenary year.

Mr. Rai said that Kuvempu's "Sri Ramayana Darshanam" was a wonderful epic-poem.

His contributions to Kannada literature had earned him a rightful place among the great litterateurs of the world, he said.

Srikanth Kodgi, scholar, presided over the function, Mahalingeshwar proposed a vote of thanks.

Earlier, poets G.S. Sidhalingaiah, L. Hanumantaiah, Lakshmipati Kolar, Vaidehi, Na. Mogasale, U. Maheshwari, Jyoti Guruprasad, Jayaram Karanth, Amrit Someshwar, Vasanthkumar Perla, Vasanth Bannady, and B.M. Basheer, recited their poems.
