MANGALORE, DEC. 30. Anti-rowdy squad here has arrested Aneesh Kumar Shetty (25) of Mulur-Balepuni, Bantwal, on charges of cheating Shedigudde branch of the Canara Bank by depositing a fake demand draft, according to a press release. The accused who had an account in the bank got Rs. 8.50 lakhs as loan from the bank by mortgaging a bus. On November 26, 2004, he deposited a DD for Rs. 4,98,875 reportedly issued by Tirumalchheri branch State Bank of India. By encashing the demand draft, Canara Bank remitted Rs. 90,000 to the account of the accused and gave the remaining cash to the accused. When the Canara Bank authorities sent the demand draft to Port Road branch of State Bank of India for clearance on November 27, 2004, they found that the draft to be fake. Senior manager of the Shedigudde branch of Canara Bank filed a complaint with Mangalore North Police.
