MANGALORE, DEC. 30. The district administration has opened an account at Vijaya Bank, Light House Hill Road, here for making contributions to tsunami victims and relief operations. The account number is 20169, the Deputy Commissioner, Arvind Shrivastav, has said. Those who wish to contribute can make payments to the account by cash, demand draft or cheque drawn in favour of "Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Tsunami Relief) C/o Deputy Commissioner, Dakshina Kannada, Mangalore". The cheques and demand drafts can be given in the office of the Deputy Commissioner and acknowledgement for the same can be obtained. The Bishop of Mangalore, Aloysius Paul D'Souza, has appealed to the people to contribute generously for the relief and rehabilitation work. All churches under Mangalore Diocese will collect funds at churches on January 9 for the purpose, according to a release.
Jatha
Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Bharat Seva Dal, headed by Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, led a jatha in the city on Wednesday to collect funds for tsunami victims. The Mayor, Purandaradasa Kuloor, inaugurated the jatha by contributing Rs. 1,001 in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
