People evacuated from Padukere

By Our Staff Correspondent

PADUKERE (UDUPI DT.), DEC. 30. An eerie calm prevailed at Padukere on Thursday as the district administration began evacuating people from there.

The operations are being supervised by the Deputy Commissioner, T. Sham Bhatt. Even as a team of presspersons went on a boat from Malpe to Padukere, the people of Padukere, including women, children and the elderly, were seen leaving the area.

They were boarding boats for Malpe, from where they are being transported to safe places by the district administration.

The people, particularly women, had little luggage with them, probably thinking that they will not have to spend more than a night at either Rajanagana or the Town Hall in Udupi city.

The arrangements made by the district administration for evacuation through boats here are proceeding smoothly.

The Udupi Tahsildar, Muralidhar, and police officials were present at Padukere. Things appear to be going on in an orderly fashion.
