Officials, politicians plan padayatra to raise funds

MANGALORE, DEC. 30. Elected representatives and officials will take out a "padayatra" in 13 batches in city on Friday to raise funds for tsunami victims.

The first batch, headed by the Deputy Commissioner, Arvind Shrivastav, and the Joint Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation, Krishnappa Poojary, will start from the Deputy Commissioner's office at 10 a.m. It will cover Hamilton Circle, Hampankatta Signal Circle, city market area and Nehru Maidan area.

The second batch, headed by the Mayor, Purandaradasa Kuloor, and the Deputy Commissioner of corporation, H.S. Choudhury, will cover Lalbagh, Mahatma Gandhi Road, PVS Circle, Kudmul Ranga Rao Road, Karangalpadi, Bejai and KSRTC bus stand area.

N. Yogish Bhat, MLA, and Prabhakar Sharma, Assistant Commissioner, Mangalore, will lead the third batch via Bunder, Golikatta Bajar, Jumma Masjid Road, Old Port area, Hoige Bazar and end at Regional Transport Office.

Krishna J. Palemar, Suratkal MLA, will cover Suratkal, Hosabettu and Kulai.

The team headed by Blasius D'Souza, MLC, will proceed via Kankanadi, Pumpwell Circle, Valancia and Gori Gudda.

Soumendu Mukharjee, Superintendent of Police, will lead his team through Kottara, Urwa Stores, Ashok Nagar, Urwa Market and Lady Hill.

Another batch headed by S.G. Hegde, District Officer, District Industries Centre, will cover Baikampady and Baikampady Industrial Area.

Tahsildar U.G. Nayak will lead his team through Car Street, Bhawanthi Street, Temple Square and Gadi Chowk.

The Joint Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, and his team will take out "padayatra" via Jyothi Circle, Balmatta, Milagris Road, Falnir Road and K.S.R. Rao Road.

The Divisional Controller, KSRTC, Ashok Kumar, will lead his team through Karangalpadi, Bunts Hostel, Mallikatta, Kadri, Shivabagh and Nanthur.

Subodh Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, and his team will go through Pumpwell Cirlce, Kapithaniyo, Naguri, Padil, Maroli and Nanthur Junction.

The team headed by Rajanna, Deputy Director, Department of Food and Civil Supplies, will cover Mangaladevi Temple Junction, Pandeshwar, Jeppu Market, Bolar, Mulihitlu and Manki Stand.

The Deputy Conservator of Forests, J. Santhosh Kumar, will lead his team via Kottara Chowki, Kulur and Kavoor.

The Deputy Commissioner has requested NCC cadets, volunteers of National Service Scheme, representatives of Bharat Seva Dal, corporators, Scouts and Guides and other people to voluntarily take part in the "padayatra".
