HYDERABAD, DEC. 29. The Hyderabad police have imposed restrictions on the movement of traffic in connection with New Year celebrations on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Vehicles coming from Visweswarayya Statue towards Necklace Road and Telugu Talli will be diverted at Visweswarayya Statue towards Khairatabad and Raj Bhavan Road from 11p.m., according to a press release. Vehicles coming from Secretariat and moving towards Secunderabad via Necklace Road will take a detour at Telugu Talli towards Upper Tank Bund from 11 p.m. Traffic coming from BRK Bhavan and going towards Budha Purnima Road will be diverted at Secretariat `U' turn towards Iqbal Minar from 11 p.m. Vehicles coming from Khairatabad Market and intending to go towards Necklace Rotary side will be diverted at Khairatabad library towards Meera theatre lane. The Mint compound lane adjacent to Secretariat will be closed for general vehicular movement. Vehicles coming from Nallagutta railway bridge and going towards Sanjeevaiah Park and Necklace Road will not be allowed and diverted towards Karabala Maidan or Ministers' Road from 5 p.m. onwards.
Extensive checking
The traffic police will undertake extensive checks to curb drunken driving, rash and negligent driving and triple riding on two-wheelers and other traffic rule violations. "Celebrate, but safely," is the advice of the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police to New Year revellers. The Hyderabad Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tejdeep Kaur Menon, asked commuters to take alternative routes, as the Budha Purnima-Necklace road would be closed up to Viswesvarayya statue at night. The Cyberabad Police Commissioner, M. Mahender Reddy, said breath analysers would be used to detect cases of drunken driving. Plainclothes policemen would keep an eye on eve-teasers.
Curbs for procession
Restrictions have also been imposed on the Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda-Gurudwara Sri Akalsar Sahib Vanasthalipuram stretch for a procession to be taken out by the Sikh community in connection with the 300 years of martyrdom of Sahib Zade on Saturday. Traffic will be stopped or diverted between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday at Central Gurudwara, Gowliguda, Putlibowli crossroads, Rangmahal crossroads, Victory Play Grounds, Saibaba temple, Chaderghat northern side, causeway, Lalazar, Nalgonda crossroads, Mahboob Mansion, Moosarambagh, Dilsukhnagar, Saroornagar, L.B. Nagar, Gurudwara Sri Akalsar Sahib Vanasthalipuram.
