Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, DEC. 30. Skies will be partly cloudy on Friday with a minimum temperature of around 20 degree Celsius.

On Thursday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum of 29.5 degrees and a minimum of 20.4. Meenambakkam registered a maximum of 30 degrees and a minimum of 19.3. The humidity was 72 and 75 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in parts of Kondithope and Mandaveli between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday for maintenance work.

Bus diversion

To avoid traffic congestion, buses on route numbers 18, 18B, 18C, 18E, 18G, 18C Extn., 18K, K18, 18T and 51P will operate from Central towards the High Court via G.H. Muthusamy Salai, instead of Evening Bazaar and Rattan Bazaar from January, according to an MTC release.

Yoga classes

The Nolamur branch of the Anna Nagar Manavalakkalai Mandram has organised free yoga classes between 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. on January 2 at Green Valleys Matriculation School, Kalamegam Salai, West Mogappair. For details, contact 55395400.

Certificate course

The Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre is organising a certificate course in computer awareness. Participants will be taught Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint at the Periyar Science and Technology Centre on Gandhi Mandapam Road. Championship

The Zygo Scrabble Clubs conducted a national scrabble championship for school children between December 27 and 29 at Sri Sarada Secondary School, Gopalapuram.

The tournament attracted students from Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Tiruchi, Chennai and Mysore. Abhimanyu Das of St. Thomas School in Kolkata won the first rank.

The top ten rankers will play at the national championship for seniors in July 2005 at Pune.
