CHENNAI, DEC. 30. Dissatisfied with the manner in which the State police and the CB-CID investigated the mysterious disappearance of a former MLA's son, the Madras High Court has transferred the investigation of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Justice V. Kanagaraj asked the Directorate of CBI to take over the investigation of the disappearance of the former Forward Bloc MLA, Aandithevar, on a criminal original petition filed by advocate R. Rajendra Narasimhan, maternal uncle of the missing Sivaraman, an engineer. Sivaraman was born to Mr. Aandithevar and Punniyavathi, who died in 1975. According to the petitioner, the boy was last seen at a family function on August 12, 1998. Asked about the boy, the ex-MLA told his relatives that he was working in Singapore. A little later, however, Mr. Aandithevar vacated Sivaraman's room at a Madurai lodge and removed the belongings from there, giving rise to suspicion.
No breakthrough
Two separate police complaints were registered in April 2000, and owing to lack of satisfactory action, courts were also approached for a suitable direction on the ground that the three-time MLA was an "influential person and disturbed the investigation." In December 2000, the investigation was entrusted with the CB-CID. Unable to obtain any clue even after examining 26 persons, the CB-CID filed a report stating that all suspected persons had been interrogated and still no breakthrough was made. Allowing the present petition, Mr. Justice Kanagaraj said: "It is pathetic to note that after a lapse of six years in a case of missing boy, the police are not able to either locate the boy or say anything about what happened to him. This court is of the view that there shall be no more wasting of time in the name of investigation by police and CB-CID. It is only desirable to hand over the investigation to the CBI to investigate the matter afresh from the beginning in order to unearth the truth." He also directed the CBI Director to file a final report in the matter at the earliest.
