Death toll in Asia crosses 1.2 lakhs

BANDA ACEH (INDONESIA), DEC. 30. The death toll in the tsunami disaster in Asia soared above 1,20,000 today as millions scrambled for food and fresh water.

The toll had shot up more than 50 per cent in a day. Indonesia, with over 80,000 dead and Sri Lanka, with nearly 28,000 casualties were the worst hit.

Aid agencies warned that many more could die in epidemics if shattered communications and transport hampered what may prove history's biggest relief operation.
