COIMBATORE, DEC. 30 . The Collector, S. Kosalaraman, today said that the total contribution through the administration from the district is Rs 28.44 lakhs from 164 persons. The highest contributions included Tirupur Eastern Export-Rs. 5 lakhs, SNR Charitable Trust-Rs. 8.5 lakhs, TNEB Contractors Association-Rs. one lakh. Textile and finance associations have given Rs. 50,000. The Chairman of Ellen Hospitals, Ramachandran, contributed medicines worth Rs. one lakh. Narikuravas donated seven bags of rice. The president of the Coimbatore Gujarati Samaj, donated Rs. 11,000 and the residents of Kovai Nagar Housing Society at Bhuj in Gujarat have donated Rs. 11,111. The TNAU, Vice-Chancellor, C. Ramasamy, said that a day's salary of the staff totalling Rs. 18 lakhs would be given. The staff of the special panchayats led by the Assistant Director, M.P. Gandhi, have contributed materials worth Rs. 13.21 lakhs, which included 3,000 sarees, 1,000 lungis, 4,750 T-shirts and 50 bags of bleaching powder and 50 pairs of gumboots for the rescue personnel. Members of the LIC Pensioners Association would donate a day's pension. Members of the Coimbatore Jaggery Merchants Association donated Rs. 10,000, its president, C. Rajagopal, said. The Chairman and MD of Bank of Baroda, P.S. Sheony, announced Rs. 5 crore to the PM's Relief Fund. Members of Southern India Mills Association have donated relief materials. Donors are urged to contribute paste, soap, rice, dhal, plates, tumblers, utensils and dresses for children aged two to 15.
