Live at your own peril, says TNHB

By V.S. Palaniappan

COIMBATORE, DEC. 30 . The Tamil Nadu Housing Board has cautioned residents of its flats, especially those on the second floor, regarding their safety.

In the wake of tsunami disaster and Coimbatore identified as being vulnerable to the impact of tremors, the Executive Engineer and Administrative Officer of the Coimbatore Housing Unit, R. Mariappan, today served a notice on residents at the Tamil Nadu Government Rental Scheme Apartments at Race Course, Kavundampalayam, Gandhipuram and SIHS Colony stating that the apartments may not sustain tremors.

The notice advised its allottees "residing in the second floor to therefore vacate the premises `suo motu' by making alternate arrangements in private accommodations".

The housing board has already refrained from allotting the houses in the second floor to any applicant.

Houses on second floor have been declared "condemned" or unfit/unsafe for occupation and if an applicant in the waitlist insisted on availing the house, it was allotted after obtaining a written undertaking from the allottee that the maintenance would be at his own cost and risk.

It also cautions, "anyone who would not concede to this notice would be doing so at their own risk and cost".
