The Begumbazar police on Thursday arrested a person, Mohd. Abdul Aziz, 55, and recovered Rs. 4.19 lakhs he had allegedly stolen from the cash counter of Ismail Hotel at Exhibition grounds on Wednesday.

Aziz confessed to police that he had stolen Rs. 4.20 lakhs and was nabbed even as he was planning to escape to his native place in Kamareddy of Nizamabad district, a press release said.

Handbags snatched

A housewife, Shabana Mehdi, lost Rs. 15,000 when an unidentified person snatched away her handbag while she was standing beside her car at Taramandal complex on Wednesday.

A resident of King Kothi, Shabana was waiting on the road while her husband went inside a shop, the Saifabad police said.

The offender approached Shabana and diverted her attention before snatching the bag and running away.

Two motorcycle-borne culprits relieved a woman, Shaheen, 25, of her handbag containing Rs. 5,000 and a mobile, near the restaurant which she was working under the Golconda police station limits, on Wednesday.

The woman was walking past the restaurant's gate when the youngsters came from behind, snatched her handbag and sped away, the police said.
