BANGALORE, DEC. 30. As a mark of respect to the victims of the tsunami that devastated many areas, major clubs in Bangalore are thinking of cancelling their New Year's Eve parties. Many clubs have organised celebrity performances, most of which are scheduled for Friday. Not all have confirmed that they will cancel their parties. The Bangalore Club on K.M. Cariappa Road and the Metropolitan Club in B.T.M. 2nd Stage have called off their celebrations. The Bangalore Club will set up a tsunami relief fund and accept donations from its members. Other clubs plan to hold meetings to discuss the issue. The manager of the Bangalore Vihar Kendra in Banashankari 2nd Stage, Raju, said the kendra will hold a meeting on Friday to decide whether to cancel its New Year's Eve party. Rama Rao, manager of Chord Road Club, said: "As of now, we are not sure of anything," Other major clubs in the city, such as the Bowring Institute, Century Club, and Koramangala Club, have made it clear that they are not cancelling functions.
Press Club decision
The Press Club of Bangalore has cancelled the annual New Year's Eve celebrations as a mark of respect to the thousands who perished in the tsumani. The club will donate Rs. 25,000 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The presentation of the newly instituted Press Club awards and the "Citizen of the Year" award, which was scheduled for Friday, has been postponed to January 15, 2005, according to the club.
