SFI's plea to

Governor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 30 . The SFI has sought the intervention of the Governor, R.L. Bhatia, to prevent what it called a move by the Government to stall the elections to the Senates and Syndicates of the Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi and Kannur universities. In a statement here, its secretary, T.V. Rajesh, said the process of election had already begun, but the Government had suddenly decided to stop it and constitute these bodies through nomination. He urged the Governor to look into the matter and take necessary steps to protect the democratic character of the universities.

The BSNL has given phone connections free of cost to two tsunami relief camps in the city, according to a press release. The following are the numbers: Fort High School: 2473377; Manacaud High School: 2472299.

The Chamber of Commerce here has elected M.R. Narayan as president, S. Thanu Pillai as secretary and P. Murugan as treasurer for 2005 at the chamber's general body meeting held on December 29.

Programme

postponed

In view of the tsunami disaster, Swaralaya has postponed its `Gandharva Sandhya' programme, featuring playback singers K.J. Jesudas and K.S. Chitra, among others, according to a pressnote. The programme, which was scheduled to be held on January 4, would now be held during the month-end.

AMMA's

gesture

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) today handed over a cheque for Rs.5 lakhs to the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, as its contribution to the relief fund for the tsunami victims. The cheque was handed over by the office-bearers led by the president, Innocent.
