Case against councillor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 30. The Kovalam police have registered a case against the Punchakkary corporation ward councillor, A.J. Sukarno, on the charge that he roughed up a police constable this morning. According to the police, Mr. Sukarno roughed up Sivan, 45, a police constable around 11.30 p.m. after he denied permission to the councillor to hail an autorickshaw when the motorcade of the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, was due to arrive on the route.

The Peerorkada police have arrested Sunil Kumar alias Chani Suni (30), who was allegedly wanted in a number of criminal cases in the city.
