ADILABAD, DEC. 31. In view of 2005 being observed as the `Year of excellence' in the Indian judiciary, the district court here has adopted a target-oriented approach towards clearance of pending cases in the 20 courts in the district. Targets have been fixed by the High Court for judges at all levels in this regard. "We are starting the year 2005 with some goals and objectives. While maintaining quality, we will dispose of the pending cases as per schedule," the Adilabad district and sessions judge, Samudrala Govindarajulu, said at a press conference here on Friday.
Confidence on targets
The judge termed the pendency of 23,000 cases in the district as `manageable' with the exception of the Luxettipet court where the pendency was unusually large at 7,000 cases. He expressed confidence in reaching the targets. Regarding the targets, he said the district and additional district courts have been asked to dispose of the pre-2001 cases by the end of 2005. Similarly, the senior civil judges would dispose of the pre-1999 cases and the junior civil judges and the judicial magistrates first class would dispose of the pre-2001 cases by the year-end. On the needs of the judiciary in the district, Mr. Govindarajulu said proposals have been forwarded to the High Court for either establishment of a new court or shifting one of the existing courts at Utnoor to Mancherial.
