KOCHI, DEC. 31. The divers of the Indian Navy continued to recover sunken debris at the Galle harbour in Sri Lanka today as the Naval survey ship, INS Sutlej, completed a survey of the inner harbour. The vessel has identified various objects that need to be salvaged as part of clearing the port of Galle. The divers today recovered a boat that had sunk in Sunday's tsunami disaster. Three officers and 32 cadets of INS Sharda are also engaged in clearing operations in Galle harbour, said a Navy communiqué. The Navy handed over two generator sets to the Sri Lankan authorities. The vessels distributed 1,100 packets of food to the affected people. Two Naval aircrafts, operating from Colombo, continued to provide relief.
More ships to Sri Lanka
Two other survey vessels of the Navy, INS Jamuna and INS Sarvekshak, which left the Naval Base here on Thursday with relief supplies and medical team, are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on Saturday morning. INS Jamuna has been converted into a floating hospital. Currently, Indian Naval teams are operating from the camps at Galle and Batapola. Hundreds of patients have already been treated at these camps.
