VIJAYAWADA, DEC. 31. The 16th Vijayawada Book Festival will be held at the PWD Grounds, where the venue has been christened Raja J. Rameswara Rao Pranganam, from January 1 to 11. The festival would be thrown open to public at an inaugural meeting to be held at 2 p.m. on January 1 and would remain open everyday from 2.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Marking the occasion, a meeting would be organised at the Sri Tripuraneni Gopichand Sahitya Vedika, which would be inaugurated by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, Chairman, U.R. Ananta Murty. The district Collector, K. Prabhakar Reddy, would preside over the meeting while Ravuri Bharadwaja would be he chief guest. Later, Mr. Bharadwaja would speak on `Gopichand's writings - A review', which would be presided over by Tripuraneni Saichand.
Biggest ever
The Vijayawada Book Festival Society president, Ravikrinda Ramaswamy, told reporters on Friday that the book festival would be the biggest ever with publishers and distributors from across the country set to open 260 stalls.
New entrants
Noted publishers, Manohar, Taxman and Financial Express, are participating for the first time even as The Hindu, Malayala Manorama, and Deccan Chronicle newspapers, Telugu University, Telugu Academy, Publications Division, National Book Trust, Sahitya Academy and other public sector publishers would take part. There would be talks by eminent writers and book release functions during the book festival. Competitions would be conducted for students from January 2 to 9.
Valedictory
The Higher Education Minister, Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, would be the chief guest at the valedictory function on January 11 at 6 p.m. It would be presided over by the former Karnataka Governor, V.S. Ramadevi. The Vijayawada Mayor, P. Anuradha, would be the chief guest and give away prizes to students. D. Ashok Kumar of Ashok Book Centre and Babji of New Student Book Centre were also present.
