The polls will be held after a gap of 25 years in Jammu and Kashmir. The notification was issued by the State Chief Electoral Officer in Jammu. Except for Leh and Kargil districts and the municipal committee Tangmarg in Baramulla district and municipal committees of Achabal-Kokernag and Pahalgam district, the elections for the municipal bodies would be completed in phases starting from January 8 to February 17, official sources said. The model code of conduct will come into force with immediate effect, the CEO said in a statement. The notification for the Srinagar municipal corporation, committees in Baramulla and Kupwara districts, Anantnag and Pulwama districts and in Srinagar and Budgam districts of Kashmir province will be issued on January 8, 10, 20 and 24 respectively, he said. Nominations for municipal corporation, Srinagar and municipal council/committees in Baramulla and Kupwara districts will be received by January 15 while nominations for municipal council/committees in Anantnag and Pulwama districts will be received by January 25 and for municipal council/committees in Srinagar and Budgam districts by January 29.
