Centre mulls new norms for FDI in township development

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 1. The Centre is considering revising norms for inviting foreign direct investment (FDI) in development of urban infrastructure, particularly townships.

"While the Central Government has permitted 100 per cent FDI in integrated townships, liberalised norms with respect to the development of 100 acres are likely to be revised shortly. The criteria may be value based and not acreage based," the Urban Development Secretary, Anil Baijal, said at a meeting with a delegation of the PHDCCI today.

On congestion of Delhi roads, Mr. Baijal said to reap the real benefit of the Metro Rail, the surface railway need to be energised to ease the transport problem of Delhi. Efforts were being made to link the rail network with road transport, he said. Four or five locations were being considered for waste management to maintain a clean look of the city. Facilitating public-private participation had become the need of the hour to deal with waste management.
