Hyderabad takes control

HYDERABAD, JAN.1. Left-arm spinner Indra Sekhar Reddy struck in the last two sessions to help Hyderabad enforce follow-on and stay in contention for the vital bonus point against Assam in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group `B' match at Gymkhana Grounds here on Saturday.

Earlier, Hyderabad, resuming at the overnight score of 337 for eight, was bowled out for 340. Assam scored 158 in its first knock and was nine for two at close in the second innings.

Bowling a nagging line and length, I.S. Reddy today made it clear that he was ready for the big league. His four-wicket haul diminished Assam's hopes of avoiding the follow-on, despite defiant knocks by debutant Gokul sharma (44, 144 b, 1x4) and Sukhwinder Singh (28).

Another highlight of the day was N.S. Arjun Yadav's brilliant catch to send Sukhwinder to pavilion. Left-arm medium-pacer S. Vishnuvardhan also impressed with a three-wicket haul.

I.S. Reddy continued his superb form as he struck twice in his very first over to leave Assam struggling at nine for two.
