Moscow: Cosmonaut Salizhan Sharipov and astronaut Leroy Chiao, the crew-members of the International Space Station (ISS), became the first in the world to be greeted by the New Year. Alexander Kireev, the chief of the ballistic-navigational safety, at the Mission Control Centre, near Moscow, told Itar-Tass news agency that the ISS crossed the international line of changeable date, passing though the Pacific Ocean, at 0202 hours local time (around 4:32 pm IST). Two decorated artificial New Year's Trees (one of them will be affixed to the ceiling over the festive table), presents from the Earth and numerous communication sessions with relatives and friends will create a festive atmosphere for the ISS crew during the New Year holiday season.
