Zaheer, Yusuf run through U.P.

VADODARA, JAN. 1. Zaheer Khan and Yusuf Khan shared eight wickets to skittle out Uttar Pradesh for a paltry 124 and give Baroda a first innings lead of 62 runs on the second day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Elite-B contest here on Saturday.

At close, the host had widened the margin of lead to 137 with seven wickets in hand while making 75 for three in the second innings. Baroda made 186 in its first essay.

Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan grabbed three for 33, while spinner Yusuf — brother of young India pacer Irfan Pathan — ripped out the heart of the U.P. first innings with a haul of five for 31 in the low-scoring clash.

Meanwhile, a skipper's knock of 93 by Ajay Jadeja, along with valuable contributions from the tail, helped Delhi make 394 in its first innings against defending champion Mumbai in a key Elite-A clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. At stumps, the host was 32 without loss.

Assam follows on

In Hyderabad, left-arm spinner Indra Sekhar Reddy struck telling blows in the last two sessions to help the host enforce the follow-on and stay in contention for the vital bonus point against Assam in an Elite-B match at the Gymkhana ground.
