DU hostellers chip in for tsunami disaster relief

By Our Staff reporter

NEW DELHI, JAN. 1. The North Campus of Delhi University witnessed fireworks of a different kind this New Year's Eve. Determined to move beyond just boycotting celebrations, residents of the University's D. S. Kothari Hostel decided to help the victims of the tsunami tragedy by "walking'' into people's homes and hearts.

A four-day candlelit march in areas around the campus saw help pour in from beggars to businessmen and rickshaw pullers to students, who came together to raise funds for the needy in the tsunami-hit southern States. And while they may not be too happy with the final count of Rs. 30,000, clothes and other items that they managed to collect, the students are hoping that other hostels and colleges too will follow suit.

From hostels and colleges to nearby areas like Maurice Nagar, Vijay Nagar and Kingsway Camp, hostel residents inspired many to join them on the way.
