NEW DELHI, JAN. 1. The prestigious Bahadur Shah Zafar Award of the Delhi Urdu Academy for 2004 has gone to eminent litterateur and scholar Tanveer Ahmad Alvi for his lifetime services to the Urdu language and culture. The award carrying Rs 1,11,111, a shawl, a robe of honour and citation will be presented at a special function to be held shortly. Besides, 12 other Academy awards of Rs 21,000 each, a shawl, a plaque and citation have also been announced for those with outstanding contribution. The other awardees were Mehmood Hashmi (criticism), Balraj Verma (creative writing), Waqar Manvi (Poetry), Aziz Burney, (journalism), Surjeet Singh Lamba (linguistic Integration), Yogendra Bali (Transaltion) Moin Ejaz (Humour and satire), Rais Siddiqui (Urdu Electronic media), Ms Rahat Sultana (Best teacher, senior schools), Riaz Ali Shaiq (Best teacher Primary schools) and Zakiruddun (calligraph).
