I was not chided: Sibal

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 1. The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Kapil Sibal, today described his meeting with the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, on Friday evening as "routine" — one that he has every month.

Reacting to media reports, Mr. Sibal told The Hindu : "I was not summoned, I was not chided, and no explanation was sought from me." According to Mr. Sibal, it was he who sought the meeting as it was routine for him to meet Ms. Gandhi every month to discuss a host of issues — both political and official. Mr. Sibal said he had sought his monthly appointment on December 24 and it had been initially scheduled for 11.50 a.m. on Thursday. However, with tsunami overtaking all matters and because of a meeting scheduled with the Home Minister, Mr. Sibal apparently sought a change in time. "It was changed to 1 p.m. on Thursday but since I had a prior official engagement, I suggested that time be set out for me on Friday."
