NEW DELHI, JAN. 1. Diplomats and staff members of the Chinese Embassy in India have donated Rs. 10.8 lakhs to The Hindu Relief Fund in aid of tsunami victims. A cheque in Indian rupees was handed over by Zheng Qingdian, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, to P. Balachandran, Regional Manager, The Hindu , Delhi, today. Mr. Zheng, who personally came to hand over the cheque at The Hindu office in New Delhi, said that " we believe that the people in tsunami-affected areas in India will definitely be able to conquer the natural disaster and rehabilitate" themselves at an early date. In a display of solidarity with the tsunami-hit Indian people, Mr. Zheng stressed that the donation came "straight from the heart" of the Chinese diplomats and Embassy staff based in India "to help the rescue and relief work in the tsunami-stricken areas of India." Mr. Balachandran thanked Mr. Zheng for the generous donation to the newspaper's relief fund for the tsunami victims of India.
