GURUVAYUR, JAN. 1. The CPI(M) State secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan, has demanded that the State and Central Governments should take immediate steps to erect sea-walls along the entire sea coast of the State to reduce the impact of the possible sea fury in future. ``There are many who raise doubts about the effectiveness of sea-walls in containing damages if the waves are of very intense nature. But our experience has been that in the recent attack of tsunami waves there was not much damage in areas where there were sea-walls and casualties have been very high in areas where such walls had not been constructed,'' Mr. Vijayan said. He was inaugurating the district conference of the CPI(M) today. Appealing to the party workers to take part actively in the relief operations, the CPI(M) State secretary said: ``There have been serious lapses on the part of the Central and State Governments in the relief operations and in mobilising efficient warning systems. But this is not the time to discuss about such lapses because the gravity of the tragedy is so severe. All the party workers should mobilise whatever relief materials are possible before January 10 and reach them to the affected people. The party workers must be in the forefront of relief operations everywhere.''
