ADILABAD, JAN. 1. The Adilabad district Collector, J. Sudha Rani, on Saturday said developmental work was being hampered by shortage of staff in various departments. She put the shortage at about 50 per cent in some crucial departments. At an informal get-together with mediapersons here on the occasion of New Year, the Collector said she had raised the matter at the Collectors' conference at Hyderabad recently. The Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda, had assured filling of vacancies soon, she said. The problem of shortage of staff was so acute that deputing them to investigate or inquire into alleged lapses on different fronts proved a hindrance to development. "That is why I suggested the general body of the Zilla Parishad not to press for inquiries into alleged lapses in implementation of schemes in the past," she said.
