Foggy morning forecast

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JAN. 1.JAN. 1.JAN. 1 The cloud cover over the Capital on Saturday led to an increase in temperature, but Sunday promises to be a mixed day for Delhiites. The weatherman has forecast a foggy morning on Sunday. The sky is likely to remain partly cloudy and there is a possibility of thundery developments or light rains in some areas. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around 10 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Saturday were 22 and 13.7 degrees Celsius respectively. At Palam, the maximum and minimum temperatures stood at 22.4 and 14.1 degrees Celsius.

The maximum humidity at Safdarjung and Palam was 91 per cent and 89 per cent respectively, while minimum relative humidity at the two places was 55 per cent and 62 per cent.

Cheating charge, 3 held

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JAN. 1.JAN. 1.JAN. 1 Three persons, who allegedly cheated electronic shop owners of over Rs. 20 lakhs by issuing them cheques obtained on fake identity proofs against the goods purchased on instalments, were arrested from Paharganj in Central Delhi this Thursday. A stolen Maruti car and several other electronic goods were recovered from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that some unscrupulous elements would come to Paharganj in a stolen vehicle, the police laid a trap and intercepted the car. The three occupants were identified as Jugal Kishore, Jitender and Nishant Sharma. During interrogation, they disclosed that they used to take flats on rent in different localities and somehow obtain their electricity and telephone bills, on the basis of which they would open bank accounts on fake identity proofs.

Then the three would buy electronic items like television, music system and handicams on instalments and issue the shopkeepers cheques, which were never honoured. At their instance, the police recovered electronic goods worth Rs. 1 lakh and incriminating documents. Further investigations are on.

Wanted accused nabbed

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JAN. 1.JAN. 1.JAN. 1 A person allegedly wanted in a robbery-cum-murder case reported from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh was arrested from Nizamuddin railway station by the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch on Friday.

The Inter-State Cell received a tip-off that Nadeem, who was wanted in a robbery-cum-murder case, would come to Nizamuddin railway station. Subsequently, a team comprising Inspector Subhash Tandon, Sub-Inspector Harbir Singh and others laid a trap and arrested the accused around 11-30 p.m. The Uttar Pradesh police have been informed.

Bangladeshis arrested

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JAN. 1.JAN. 1.JAN. 1 Two Bangladeshi nationals, who were allegedly involved in robbery cases, were arrested from Preet Vihar in East Delhi in the early hours of Friday.

Around 6 a.m., the police received a call saying that four persons had robbed the occupants of a flat at Preet Vihar. Subsequently, some policemen rushed to the spot. On the way, they spotted four persons moving under suspicious circumstances near Madhuban Chowk-Patparganj Road crossing.

The police intercepted them upon which one of the suspects attacked a head constable with a knife and the other whipped out a country-made firearm. However, the police managed to overpower two of the accused, while the other two gave them the slip.
