Rehabilitation council planned

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI, JAN. 1 . A City-based voluntary organisation, Anbalayam, has planned to promote a rehabilitation council, comprising medical professionals, lawyers and social workers to work for and facilitate the rehabilitation of the tsunami affected families of Nagapattinam district.

The initiative has been taken based on the interactions between Anbalayam volunteers, who toured the affected areas, and some of the affected families, the founder of the organisation, T.K.S.Senthil Kumar said. Several farmers suffered from a fear psychosis following the Nature's fury and there was a need for counselling. The council would include psychologists to take care of this need, he said.

Besides, the council would also involve in facilitating the speedy settlement of insurance claims to legal heirs of the victims. Efforts would also be made to ensure that the governmental assistance reached the destitute and needy. The council would function for a period of three years.

A preliminary consultative meeting would be held in the City at 5 p.m. on January 3 for forming the council and those interested could attend the same. Further information could be had over the telephone at: 0431-2333102/94431-67607.
