Labourer tries to kill sons, attempts suicide

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JAN. 1. A 35-year-old labourer tried to kill his two sons by slitting their throats and later attempted suicide in Kumaraswamy Layout police station limits on Saturday.

The police said that Srinivasa (35), a labourer from Andhra Pradesh, was living with his wife and two sons in a tent erected on a vacant plot at second stage, Kumaraswamy Layout. Around 9.30 a.m., when his wife, Manjula, had gone to work, Srinivasa allegedly slit the throats of his sons, Ganesh (4) and Vinayaka (1), with a knife. Later, he slit his throat too, the police said.

Labourers in the neighbouring tents saw Srinivasa and his sons bleeding, and rushed them to Victoria Hospital in an autorickshaw. The three are said to be out of danger.

Sreenivasa was dejected in life, the police said. The Kumaraswamy Layout police have registered a case.
