Collector issues directive

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 1. The District Collector, Tinku Biswal, has directed the Kerala Water Authority, BSNL and other departments to secure the permission of the Public Works Department roads wing before digging roads for laying lines. She was presiding at the District Development Council meeting at the Collectorate today. The KSEB should try to reduce to the minimum works on the roads, she added.

Relief aid to tsunami victims

A meeting of the District Youth Congress Committee held here today decided to provide food to those affected by the tsunami wave in the coastal areas of the district. The meeting demanded that the Government initiate immediate steps to provide aid to those affected by the tsunami. The district president Manacaud Suresh presided over the meeting.

Week-long protest observed

The district committee of the Bharathiya Medical and Sales Representatives' Association observed black day today as part of the week-long protest being observed by the association from January 1 to 7 demanding the Centre to repeal the amendment to the patent law. As part of its campaign, the district committee has started a mass signature drive. The Bharatiya Vichara Kendram director P. Parameswaran inaugurated the campaign here today. The district president Sunil Kumar, the secretary Pradeep Kumar V.S., H. Satyan and Anil Kumar also attended the inaugural function.

Medicines supplied

The Department of Homoeo supplied medicines to 9,164 persons who were housed in relief camps following the threat of sea erosion, the District Medical Officer, K.V. Patel, informed. The medicines were distributed in 21 camps in Thiruvananthapuram and Neyyatinkara.

Matsyafed employees contribute

The employees of Matsyafed contributed two days salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The Minister for Fisheries, Dominic Presentation. handed over a cheque of Rs.2.26 lakhs to the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, for the Matsyafed today.

Website launched
