PONDICHERRY, JAN. 2. The Karnataka Government today donated Rs. 50 lakhs to the Pondicherry Chief Minister's relief fund for rehabilitation of tsunami victims. The Karnataka Tourism Minister D.T. Jayakumar called on the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy at his office and handed over a cheque for the amount. Karnataka has also sent four truckloads of relief materials, which include saris, dhotis, utensils and medicines, to Pondicherry. It will send a medical teamto relief camps.
Flood of contributions
Donations are pouring in from various parts. Till Sunday afternoon, the relief fund had received Rs. 6,25,27,885. Sri Aurobindo Ashram donated Rs. 5 lakhs on Saturday. The Congress MP from Maharashtra, Praveen Davar, who visited the tsunami-affected areas in Karaikal and Pondicherry, said he would apprise the All-India Congress Committee of the situation.
