HYDERABAD, JAN. 2. Shreya Life Sciences Pvt Ltd launched its recombinant human insulin under the brand name Recosulin and a needle-free insulin delivery device, Recojet, here today. Ram Shelat, head of the company's strategic alliances and new business development, told a press conference that Recosulin was prepared by using the advanced technology developed by its USA-based collaborator, Biotechnology General Corporation (BTGC), now known as Savient Inc.
New facility
He said the finished product would be imported initially from Bioton, Poland. The group company, Shreya Biotech Pvt.Ltd., was setting up a Rs.60-crore facility at Pune for the manufacture of insulin crystals. The commercial production was expected to commence by the year-end. The price of a Recosulin vial of Rs.128 was expected to come down once the company starts commercial manufacture of the crystals. This year, the company was expecting to get five per cent share of the total Rs.250-crore market for human insulin products in the country. He claimed that Recojet was India's first needle-free insulin delivery device and poised to revolutionise insulin therapy. The new device was expected to give a boost to the therapy, as needle phobia was one of the reasons preventing insulin use on a wider scale.
