CHENNAI, JAN. 2. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi, has requested the Prime Minister's intervention to complete the enumeration of loss of lives and material early. "I also feel that the outstanding debts of fishermen should be waived unconditionally," he said in a letter, a copy of which was released to the Press. He thanked the Prime Minister for having visited the State and said it could be suggested to the Tamil Nadu Government to set up State and district-level committees with representatives of all political parties to monitor provision of assistance.
DPA meet
The constituents of the Democratic Progressive Alliance will meet here on January 6 to discuss the losses caused by the tsunami. According to the DPA president, Mr. Karunanidhi, the meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the DMK headquarters.
