IIT, Roorkee alumni global meet

NEW DELHI, JAN. 2. The global meet of the alumni of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, was held at Hotel Taj Palace here today to focus on strategic networking and empowerment of the nation by synergising its resources.

While the meeting was held under the leadership of the Railway Board Chairman and alumnus of the Institute, R.K. Singh, the chief guest on the occasion was the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi.

Mr. Joshi expressed his appreciation over the IIT Roorkee's decision to send a team of experts from Earthquake and Structural Engineering Department to Port Blair for providing consultancy to their counterparts in the wake the tsunami disaster.

To do its bit for the victims of this natural tragedy, the IIT Roorkee alumni association, NCR chapter, donated Rs.1 lakh to the Indian Red Cross Society.

Aimed at strengthening the framework for productive interaction and fostering the solidarity and professional networking among the alumni, the meet saw participation from the United States, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Nepal and other countries.

The meeting ended with the members undertaking a pledge to strengthen their networking and working together for the empowerment of the nation.

The IIT Roorkee Director, Prem Vrat, and the Chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Pradip Baijal, were among those present at the meeting.
