KOCHI, JAN. 2. The Kochi Corporation has sanctioned Rs. 45 lakhs to prepare a masterplan to channelise its future development process. The State Government had earlier directed the Kochi Corporation to prepare such a scheme for development in the wake of proposals to set up mega projects, including the Vallarpadam container terminal in Kochi. The civic body has also given shape to a general committee and a technical one for preparing the masterplan. It had earlier prepared a vision document with a futuristic view to serve as the base document for the city's development. The vision document will be handed over to the technical committee. The committee, with the former chief town planner Joseph Alexander as chairman, will hold a meeting tomorrow. The office of the committee was opened at the Kacheripady office complex of the Kochi Corporation. It has also been decided to seek the service of an urban town planner on contract bass to assist the committee. People's representatives, including MLAs, MP and corporation councillors, have been included in the general committee.
