KOLLAM, JAN. 3. The Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt will set apart Rs.100 crores for relief work in the tsunami-hit areas in the country. Addressing a press conference at the mutt in Amritapurai, near, here today, Mata Amritanandamayi said that if the State Government gave the sanction, the Math was prepared to reconstruct all the houses in the State that had been destroyed in the tsunami onslaught. She volunteered to build temporary shelters for the tsunami victims of Alapad panchayat who are now sheltered in relief camps. ``In association with the State Government, we propose to erect temporary shelters at Shrayikad where the mutt owns more than 10 acres of land.'' She said that if there were proposals to construct flats away from the beach for permanently accommodating those families living on the seafront, the mutt was prepared to donate ten acres for the purpose.
Household utensils
For each tsunami-hit house at Alapad, the mutt will provide Rs.1,000 for purchasing household utensils. The mutt has earmarked Rs.1.5 crores for the purpose. All applications for this should reach the mutt by January 9. Besides the rehabilitation work and reconstruction of houses in Kerala, the mutt will be extending adequate relief and support to the tsunami victims of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The mutt is also prepared to provide free education to those children who have been orphaned in the tsunami attack. The houses which the mutt proposes to build will be constructed as per the specifications of the Government. These houses will have two rooms, a kitchen, verandah and a toilet.
