Woman's death: SI, two constables assaulted

KURNOOL, JAN. 3. A Sub Inspector of Police and two constables were assaulted by an irate mob, which was agitating against the death of a housewife, at Timmapuram village in Mahanandi mandal of Kurnool district on Monday.

According to reports, Prabhavathamma (26) died under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws' place.

Parents and relations of the woman held the in-laws responsible for her death. The woman's husband, Nagaraju, sought had sought divorce on the ground of restitution of conjugal rights. But the in-laws reportedly denied her entry into the house when she wanted to live with her husband. She had been staging a sit-in at the place for the last six days. On Monday, she was found dead. Following the incident, relations staged a dharna demanding action.

They turned violent when the policemen tried to pacify them. Women assaulted the SI, B. Sudarshan Reddy, and pushed down two constables. Senior officers rushed to the place and promised action against the culprits. The relations relented and agreed to post-mortem tomorrow.
