Quake rumours jolt Warangal residents
By Our Staff Reporter
WARANGAL,
JAN. 3.
Mild tension prevailed with scores of people running helter-skelter in the early hours of Monday as rumours of an earthquake spread in Christian Colony, Labour Colony, Abbanikunta and Mills Colony area in the town.
Hundreds of people ran out of their homes around 6 a.m. as the rumour spread. While some squatted on the main thoroughfares, others took shelter in religious places. A local pastor reportedly urged people through the public address system to attend a prayer meeting as there was the possibility of an earthquake. According to local people, some residents received a telephone call from Vijayawada asking them to go to the church and pray. The local MLA, B Saraiah, went round urging people not to believe rumours.
