BANGALORE, JAN. 3. The Karnataka Roads Development Corporation will construct road bridges, wherever they are required, in the next three years at a cost of Rs. 200 crores, the Public Works Minister, H.D. Revanna said here today. He told presspersons that estimates of a Rs. 275-crore project to build roads in rural areas under the Road Development Fund of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was sent to the bank after the Cabinet sub-committee recently approved the decision to seek aid. This will cover roads which are to be built at a cost of over Rs. 25 lakhs.
Rs. 500-crore loan
NABARD has agreed to give the State Government Rs. 500 crores, of which Rs. 275 crores has been allocated to his department, Mr. Revanna said. Tenders will be called for and this project will take about three years to become a reality. A third project in the pipeline is the Rs. 2,000-crore World Bank aided Karnataka Sate Highways Improvement Project-II. After a Cabinet decision, the State Government had sought the loan to build roads to taluk headquarters. The project, under which all taluks will be covered, will be completed in three or four years.
KSHIP-I
Mr. Revanna said KSHIP-I, which is under way, to improve highways and construct 2,200 km of highways at a cost of Rs. 2,020 crores, will be completed in December 2006.
