CHAVAKKAD, JAN.3. The CPI(M) State secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan, today alleged that the Hindu unity call given by the SNDP general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, at the NSS meeting on Sunday was part of the Hindutva agenda of the RSS. Inaugurating a public meeting organised here to mark the culmination of the three-day district conference of the party at Guruvayur, the CPI(M) leader asked Mr. Natesan to clarify on how his call for Hindu unity was different from that of the RSS. "Earlier the RSS required only caste Hindus. Now political compulsions have made it imperative for the organisation to seek the support of Backward Castes as well. Mr. Natesan is becoming a pawn in the hands of RSS leaders," Mr. Vijayan said. Mr. Vijayan alleged that a section of the media was trying to spread canards against the CPI(M), as they had realised that the party was receiving support of the people. There was a time when some communities had mainted a safe distance from the CPI(M). Now that period of `untouchability' against the CPI(M) is over and the minorities are moving closer to the party, Mr. Vijayan said.
