Raichur
By Our Staff Correspondent
RAICHUR, JAN. 3. Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) staged a dharna in front of the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee's (APMC) office protesting against the committee for "not protecting the interests of farmers and the failure of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) in procuring cotton." The members led by Suresh Babu Patil, President of the sangha, picketed the officials for three hours seeking action to solve the problems faced by farmers while marketing their produce at the yard. They said the corporation did not participate in the tendering process to procure cotton. Only one-lakh quintals of cotton arrived at the yard so far. But the corporation procured only 10,000 quintals. This has affected farmers. They demanded that the corporation participate in the tendering process to stabilise the price of cotton.
