CHENNAI, JAN. 3. The Tamil Nadu Telecom Circle of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has announced a slew of schemes for the New Year and Pongal, including a change in the tariff and talk time of local calls made from public call offices (PCOs). A two-minute call from the PCO will cost Rs. 2 instead of Rs.1. 20 for 90 seconds, says a press release. A call within the Short Distance Charging Area to a landline, WLL-F (wireless in local loop-fixed) and WLL mobile phones will cost Rs. 2 for two minutes. Calls made on BSNL phones to a mobile phone within the State will be charged Rs. 2 for two minutes. Intra-circle calls using the 91 facility will be available for up to 50 km. Special offers, valid up to January 31, include waiver of rental charges for the disconnected period on post-paid connections, which are being reconnected. There will be no activation charge for post-paid CellOne connections under any plan, while a talk value of Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 on pre-paid recharge coupons of Rs.1,102 and Rs. 551 will be available if they are activated during the offer period. Apart from waiving installation charges for new landline connections booked this month, the circle will provide free an India Telephone Card (ITC) worth Rs.500. The gift will be given only in areas where the connections are provided on demand. For cellular subscribers opting for a fancy number, which costs Rs.10,000, the circle has announced free talk time, which varies according to the post-paid plan and free recharge coupons for pre-paid subscribers.
